19742              MULTIPLE MYELOMATOUS DEPOSITS IN THE SPLEEN

The patient was an elderly man who was known to have anaemia and multiple myeloma.  He was admitted terminally with haemoptysis and pulmonary oedema and died shortly afterwards.  At autopsy myelomatous infiltrates were present in bone marrow and the spleen was slightly enlarged.

The specimen consists of the spleen.  The cut surface is congested and ill defined pale infiltrations up to about 6 mms in diameter are scattered throughout the splenic substance.  A small spleniculus 1 cm in diameter is present at the hilum.
