16626              PYOMETRA

The patient was a woman aged 71 who died from acute massive cerebellar haemorrhage.  An incidental finding at postmortem was pyometra (this specimen).  The uterus, tubes and ovaries are atrophic.  The uterus measures 7 cms in length and the somewhat dilated uterine body contained thick creamy greenish pus.  The myometrium is thin and the surface vessels are congested.  Culture grew a paracolon bacillus.
